Who we are:

A group of talented, dedicated female singers who, under the direction of Doreen Alsen, rehearse and perform in the Ithaca area.  Music is chosen by semester and membership is open to any female by audition.

The Finger Lakes Women’s Chorale seeks to raise the public’s awareness of the largely unknown but rich and diverse treble literature by providing talented female singers with performance opportunities to share this repertoire with community audiences.

A brief history:

A presence on the Ithaca music scene for nearly 25 years, the Chorale was formed by Kurt Lichtmann in the early 1980’s as the Whiton Chorale based at Prospect Terrace.  Two members of that early group are still active members of the Women’s Chorale today.  Jayne Demakos took over the director’s seat until the late 1980’s.  At that time, the group shifted its focus and became a venue for talented and dedicated women singers to be challenged and excel, under current director, Doreen Alsen.  The Whiton Chorale was transformed into the Whiton Women’s Chorale.  The name was later changed once again to the Finger Lakes Women’s Chorale.

The FLWC performed its 10th anniversary concert on December 15, 2002 singing Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, the same piece performed at the first concert.
